Stir the sugar and buttermilk together in a medium sized bowl.
Add the orange juice and stir again.
Pour it into a 9 by 13 inch glass dish. Put the dish in the freezer.
In about three hours take the sherbet out of the freezer. Scoop it out of the pan and use an electric mixer to beat it . Then put in the glass pan and return it to the freezer. This makes it creamier. If you forget to do this, it will still taste good .
