Another country-style dish, handed down for generations, everyone loves it. It's so simple and has so few ingredients, just apples, butter, cinnamon, brown sugar and a pinch of salt. The hardest part is peeling the apples (AND trying not to eat more than your fair share!)

Ingredients For old-fashioned fried apples

  • 3 Tbsp
    butter, divided
  • 4 lg
    apples (such as granny smith, arkansas black, wine sap etc...) peeled, cored & sliced no more than 1/4 inch thick
  • 1 pinch
    sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp
    dark brown sugar

How To Make old-fashioned fried apples

    Gather and prep ingredients.

    Melt 2 tablespoons of the butter in nonstick or cast iron skillet over medium/medium high heat.

    Add sliced apples and pinch of salt; saute (pan fry) stirring & turning apples frequently, but not constantly, until most slices are browned some and have softened (about 10 minutes.)

    Reduce heat; add cinnamon, remaining tablespoon butter and brown sugar.

    Stir and cook until brown sugar is dissolved and apples appear reduced in volume (about 2 minutes.)

    Remove from heat. Serve. Cover and refrigerate leftovers.
