Million Dollar Rice Salad
|Serves:||10 or more servings|
|8 oz||cream cheese, softened|
|1 1/2 Tbsp||granulated sugar|
|2 c||cooked rice, cooled|
|12 large||maraschino cherries, cut in half|
|20 oz||can pineapple tidbits, drained|
|10 oz||pkg. mini marshmallows, white or pastels|
|8 oz||tub thawed cool whip|
|1 c||chopped pecans, optional|

This was first called "Million Dollar Rice Salad" and won first prize in a Texas Farm Bureau contest- where all the recipes had to contain rice and this was the prize winner and the only dessert salad entered.
Since then it has been on dinner tables and buffet counters at most every holiday and celebration and goes by many names and many different ingredients. But this is my favorite combination.
Fold in Cool Whip and pecan if desired.
Original recipe calls for whipped Dream Whip according to package directions.
I prefer to us the Cool Whip.
