Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup lemon juice, fresh
  • 8 x large egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoons lemon zest
  • 1/16 teaspoon salt
  • 10 tablespoons butter, unsalted, cut into small pieces
  • OPTIONAL:
  • 2 - 4 tart shells or phyllo tarts
  • GARNISH:
  • cool whip free
  • assorted berries

How To Make lemon custard dessert or tarts

  • Step 1
    In a heatproof bowl, whisk together 1st 5 ingredients. Place mixture over a saucepan over low simmering water set over medium low heat. Cook, whisking often, until mixture starts to thicken, about 20 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Remove bowl from pot & slowly whisk in butter until smooth.
  • Step 3
    You can either pour into individual dishes or into tart shells. Cover & chill at least 2 hours or until ready to serve. Serve with a dollop of cool whip & berries, if desired.
