Jenni's Story

Who doesn't love apple crisp, especially in the fall? As a dessert, serve it warm with vanilla ice cream. For a treat in the morning, have it for breakfast with some vanilla yogurt!

Ingredients

FILLING
6-7 c
apples, peeled & sliced
1/8 c
sugar
1/4 tsp
cinnamon
TOPPING
3/4 c
packed brown sugar
1/2 c
flour
3/4 c
quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
1/2 c
butter, softened (not melted)
1 tsp
cinnamon
1 tsp
nutmeg

Directions Step-By-Step

1
Preheat oven to 375. Grease bottom & sides of a 8x8 square pan with shortening.
2
In a small bowl, mix together 1/8 C of sugar and 1/4 tsp cinnamon. Toss together with the peeled, sliced apples until coated evenly. Spread apples in the bottom of the pan.
3
Mix together all topping ingredients except butter. Once mixed, add butter and mix well - I find it easiest to use my hands to incorporate the butter into the mixture. Sprinkle evenly over apple mixture.
4
Bake about 30 minutes at 375 until topping is golden brown. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired.

This is crazy good! Apple crisp is a fairly common recipe and there is not a lot of variation among recipes. But for this one, I like that there is a lot of topping and I like that that you toss the apples with a little sugar and cinnamon first. Jenni - or anyone else - have you ever tried adding little variations to this? Any ideas?

This was easy and I love how much topping there is-which to me is the best part...this was really good.
