I found this old-fashioned recipe in Good Old Days magazine awhile back and thought it sounded like great comfort food. A quick dessert when you're short on time.

Ingredients

3 c
blackberries
1-1/4 c
water
1 tsp
grated lemon zest
1 Tbsp
lemon juice
3/4 c
sugar

DUMPLINGS:

1 c
all purpose flour
2 Tbsp
sugar
2 tsp
baking powder
1/2 tsp
salt
1 Tbsp
butter
1/2 c
milk

Step-By-Step

1In a large saucepan with a lid, combine blackberries, water, lemon zest, lemon juice and sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 5 minutes.
2Meanwhile, blend flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl. Using your hands or a pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add milk and mix until ingredients are just moistened. Do not overmix.
3Drop 6 equal spoonfuls of dough into simmering berry sauce. Cover and cook over low heat for 10 minutes or until dumplings are done. DO NOT lift the lid.
4Spoon dumplings and sauce into serving bowls and serve hot.
