From Mrs. Gosset, my Home Economic teacher in 1964. You know, it has been a long time since I did these recipes and her name may have been Mrs. Gossar -- I don't really remember, but she was an organized and excellent teacher and we learned a lot. My mom promoted my cooking learning at home but my teacher got me really into it and widened my horizons.

How To Make baked apples

  • 1
STEP ONE: Wash and core 2 apples -- Pare the upper 1/4 part of each apple. Score threw the center and place upright in a baking dish.
  • 2
Sprinkle each apple with 2 Tbsp sugar, raisins if desired, and cinnamon (Can cut sugar down to 1 Tbsp per if prefer to reduce sugar.)If the apples are sweet enough, you may not need any sugar.
  • 3
For each apple pour 3 Tbsp water into pan and bake at 300 to 400 degrees until nearly tender. Test with a fork from the center.
  • 4
STEP TWO: Remove from the oven and stir into the juice a thickening made of cornstarch and water. Continue stirring constantly and bast apples with mixture.
  • 5
Return to the oven and allow to bake at least 10 min. longer. or until juice is clear and thickened.
  • 6
    Serve hot or cold
  • 7
The recipe is easy to adjust if you need to make more apples -- just remember that some of the ingredients are "per apple" rather than per baking dish.
