My Grandmom Petrino and Aunt Josey made these cookies for every holiday, as a child I loved them. They were hard, when I started to bake them. I changed it up a little bit and don't bake them as long, they are like little anise cakes melting in your mouth. Great for after dinner with a cup of tea or coffee..I have mine with milk..ENJOY...
Combine dry ingredients together and mix, Flour, Baking powder, and salt. Cream butter with sugar well. Add extract and egg.Mix well. Add 1/3 of the flour mixture and mix add 1/3 of milk. Keep mixing flour alternately with milk ending with flour. Drop 1 tsp onto cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake till set but not brown. 350 oven and I bake them 5-7 minutes. Check all ovens differ. Cool on a rack then add icing.
1 cup powdered sugar add 1/4 tsp of Anise extract and 1-2 tsps of milk. You can add a color if you want. Enjoy...These are one of my favorites!!!
