Mom's Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

the original name for this cookie is ... Six in One Oatmeal Cookies ... it's an oatmeal cookie with variations ... but chocolate chip has always been my favorite cookie mom made ...
Variation: add to Oatmeal cookies:
1 - 1 (12 ounce) package Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips (2 cups) and 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
2 - 1/8 cup caramel sauce
3 - 1 cup gum drops, cut up
4 - 1 cup dates, cut up
5 - 1 cup raisins
6 - 2 tablespoons orange peel

Ingredients

1 1/2 c
shortening or butter
1 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
1 c
sugar

eggs
1 tsp
vanilla extract
1 1/2 c
all purpose flour
1 tsp
salt
1 tsp
baking soda
3 c
oats, quick cooking
1
(12 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips (2 cups)
1/2 c
walnuts, chopped

Directions Step-By-Step

Cream the shortening and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy.

Mix in the egg, and vanilla.

Blend in mixture of the flour, salt, soda and oats. Mix in variation, if desired.

Drop by teaspoonful 2 inches apart onto a greased cookie sheet.

Bake 350° F for 10 - 15 minutes or until lightly browned.

Remove to a wire rack to cool.
