Our first beach trip this summer was successful and has officially gotten me excited about the warm weather. It seems to finally be sticking around. And orange cream-sicles totally scream warm, beautiful summer days to me. NOTE: I like to use colored candy melts in my puppy chow if I can to add some extra color. So for this mix, I actually doubled up the cream-sicle flavor by using orange-sicle cake mix and orange cream flavored Wilton candy melts (I found them at Michaels). If you can’t find the flavored candy melts, you could also use orange colored vanilla candy melts.

Ingredients For orange cream-sicle puppy chow

  • 5 c
    rice chex cereal, divided
  • 5 oz
white chocolate or white vanilla candy melts
  • 5 oz
orange colored candy melts (orange cream flavored, if you can find them. see my note above.)
  • 3/4 c
    orangesicle cake mix
  • 3/4 c
    powdered sugar

How To Make orange cream-sicle puppy chow

  • 1
Put 2 1/2 cups rice Chex cereal into a medium sized bowl.
  • 2
Slowly melt the orange candy melts in the microwave, stopping it every 30 seconds or so to make sure it doesn’t burn.
  • 3
Add melted candy melts to Chex cereal and lightly stir to coat evenly. Be careful to not break the Chex cereal too much.
  • 4
Add the dry cream-sicle cake mix to the covered Chex cereal and lightly stir to coat evenly. You could add the Chex cereal and cake mix to a Ziploc bag, then shake, but save yourself the bag.
  • 5
Repeat the same process with the white chocolate and remaining Chex cereal, but substitute the powdered sugar for the creamsicle cake mix.
  • 6
Allow both flavors to dry and combine.

So for this mix, I actually doubled up the creamsicle flavor by using orangesicle cake mix and orange cream flavored Wilton candy melts (I found them at Michaels). If you can’t find the flavored candy melts, you could also use orange colored vanilla candy melts if you still want the color. NOTE: If you can’t find either, or color is unimportant, just use white chocolate or almond bark. The orange-sicle cake mix will still give your puppy chow great cream-sicle flavor.
