We use Suzi-Q for my wife, Suzanne, although this is MY recipe (she's not allowed in the kitchen). The slogan that goes with it is: The name's a mouthful...but so is the cake!

Ingredients For suzi-q's double-chocolate-orange banana cake

  • 3-4
    medium overripe bananas
  • 3/4 c
    organic cane sugar
  • 1/4 c
    canola oil
  • 3 1/2 c
    sour cream
  • 2
    eggs, beaten
  • 1
    large orange
  • 1 1/2 c
    flour (you can use spelt if you like)
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 c
    unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1 c
    mini semisweet chocolate chips

How To Make suzi-q's double-chocolate-orange banana cake

    Mash bananas; add egg, sugar, oil, sour cream, and the juice and zest of the orange.

    Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cocoa and cinnamon. Combine with wet ingredients until just moistened. Fold in chocolate chips.

    Pour mixture into a well-greased 9”x5” loaf pan and bake in 325°F oven for about 1¼ hours, or until tester comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then remove to cooling rack. Enjoy!
