This is along the lines of a dump cake, but with a few more steps. It also comes under the heading of keep it simple.

Ingredients For mud cake

  • FIRST LAYER
  • 1 c
    flour
  • 1 stick
    butter, softened
  • 1 c
    chopped pecans
  • SECOND LAYER
  • 1 c
    cool whip
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 c
    confectioners' sugar
  • 1 (8oz) pkg
    cream cheese, softened
  • THIRD LAYER
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 sm
    package instant vanilla or chocolate pudding mix
  • 1 3/4 c
    milk
  • 1 c
    cool whip
  • chopped pecans, to garnish
  • shaved heershey bar, to garnish

How To Make mud cake

  • 1
    FIRST LAYER: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

    Blend the flour with the butter and then add pecans. Press into a 9 x 13-inch pan.

    Bake for 25 minutes. Cool completely.
  • 4
    SECOND LAYER: Blend all the ingredients and pour over the crust.
  • 5
    THIRD LAYER: Blend vanilla, pudding mix, and milk. Pour over cream cheese mixture. Top with cool whip and sprinkle with pecans and shaved chocolate. Refrigerate until set and ready to serve. Refrigerate any unused portion.
