Ingredients For dinette cake

  • 1 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 c
    milk
  • 1/3 c
    shortening
  • 1
    egg
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • french silk frosting (below)
  • FOR FRENCH SILK FROSTING
  • 1/3 c
    butter, softened
  • 1 1/3 c
    powdered sugar
  • 1 oz
    melted unsweetened chocolate (cool)
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp
    milk

How To Make dinette cake

    Heat oven to 350. Grease and flour square pan, 8x8x2 or 9x9x2 inches, or round pan, 9x1 1/2 inches. Beat all ingredients except frosting in large mixer bowl on low speed, scraping bowl constantly, 30 seconds. Beat on high speed, scraping bowl occasionally, 3 minutes. Pour into pan.

    Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, square 35-40 minutes, round 35 minutes; cool. Frost with French Silk Frosting.

    For French Silk Frosting: Beat butter, powdered sugar, chocolate, and vanilla on low speed until blended. Gradually beat in milk until fluffy.
