Preheat oven to 375degrees. Grease a 9X9, 8X8 or round cake pan.
Combine softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg and lemon zest and combine. Add in almond and vanilla.
In a separate bowl, sift together flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder. Add flour mix to the butter mix alternately with the milk. Stir just to combine, do not over mix.
Place batter in pan. Sprinkle with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. Top with sliced almonds. Bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Ovens vary so keep your eye on it in the last 5 minutes. It should get golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean when it's done. Let cool 30 minutes before slicing.
