sugar 'n spice cookies

I found this in a box of old family recipes - it was a gift from a Ms. Kurzawa to my grandmother, who apparently loved these cookies. When I made them, they even won over our resident ginger snap hater - he ate almost the whole batch!

Ingredients For sugar 'n spice cookies

  • 3/4 c
    shortening
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1 lg
    egg
  • 3/4 tsp
    ground cloves
  • 1/4 c
    molasses
  • 2 c
    flour
  • 3/4 tsp
    ginger
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • powdered sugar

How To Make sugar 'n spice cookies

  • 1
    Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and molasses.

    Blend dry ingredients in a separate bowl, then stir into shortening mixture.

    Form dough into 1 in. balls, then place about 2 in. apart on greased cookie sheets.

    Bake @ 350 for 10-12 min.

    Roll in powdered sugar while still warm. Makes approx. 5 doz.
