This is what I call from "Old Red", sort of my ol' reliable. I'm talking about one of my first cookbooks, Betty Crocker. This recipe has never failed me. Tastes just like what my mom made when we were growing up. Probably is the same recipe. :)

Ingredients For spritz

  • 1 c
    margarine or butter, softened
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 2 1/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla or almond extract
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1
    egg

How To Make spritz

  • 1
    Heat oven to 400ºF.

    Mix butter & sugar. Stir in remaining ingredients. Don't overmix.

    PLace dough in cookie press; form desired shaped on ungreased cookie sheet. If desired sprinkle with colored sugars.

    Bake until set but not browned; about 6-9 minutes. Immediately remove to cooling rack.

    I'VE NEVER TRIED THIS PART: CHOCOLATE: Stir 2 ounces melted unsweetened chocolate (cooled) into margarine mixture.
