Patty's Story

This is a treat that I had to make every Christmas for my kids since they were little. Now my girls are grown with children of their own and they make it too!
It is so simple to make and tastes great too!
Hope you enjoy!

Ingredients

40
saltine crackers or enough to line a cookie sheet or jelly roll pan
1 c
unsalted butter
1 c
packed brown sugar
2 c
milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips
optional 3/4 cups chopped pecans

Directions Step-By-Step

1
Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees F. Line a cookie sheet or jelly roll an with the saltine crackers in a single layer.
2
IN a small pot combine sugar and butter and bring to a bubble. Once mixture is at a bubble continue cooking for three minutes. Mixture should be a deep caramel color. Immediately pour over the crackers and spread to cover them completely.
3
Bake at 400 degrees for 5-6 minutes. The crackers will look bubbly. Remove from oven.
4
Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave until they are smooth. Spread crackers with the melted chocolate chips and top with chopped nuts, if desired. Cool completely and break into pieces.

Margaret, I am so sorry that your attempt at this recipe was a failure! I have made it more times than I can count, and it always comes out tasting just like real toffee candy!! Perhaps you overcooked the caramel topping and it was burnt. Again, sorry!

I just made this, read all the good reports, this was the most nasty tasting stuff I have ever made and I cook and bake constantly. I had someone else to try it because I thought maybe it was just me but one bite and it went into the trash. Waste of money!!!!!!!

I'm sure she knows you didn't mean it in a mean spirited way.
