This was a handwritten recipe in my Mom's collection. I remember them as good but have not tried out the recipe for years.

Ingredients

CRUST:

1/4 c
crisco
1/2 c
brown sugar
1 c
flour
1/8 tsp
salt
1/4 tsp
nutmeg

TOPPING:

1 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
2
well beaten eggs
1/4 tsp
salt
1 tsp
vanilla
1 c
coconut
1 1/2 c
rice crispie cereal
1/2 c
chopped nuts

Directions Step-By-Step

Cream 1/4 cup Crisco and 1/2 cup brown sugar
Sift together 1 cup flour, 1/8 tsp. salt, 1/4 tps nutmeg. With fork or pastry blender cut Crisco mixture into flour mixture until well blended.
Press into a 9 inch square (parchment paper lined) pan.
Bake 15 minutes in 350 degree oven.

Add 1 cup brown sugar to 2 well beaten eggs. Stir to mix. Add 1/4 tsp salt, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 cup coconut,mix well. Stir in 1 1/2 cup rice crispies, 1/2 cup chopped nuts.

Spread over baked layer and continue baking 24 minutes more. Cut into squares while warm.
