My mom found this recipe and asked me to give it a try. She thought they would be like Tom & Jerry's in cookie form. She was right....as usual.

Ingredients For nutmeg logs (tom & jerry cookies)

  • 1 c
    butter, softened
  • 3/4 c
    sugar
  • 1
    egg
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 3 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    ground nutmeg
  • FROSTING:
  • 1/3 c
    butter, softened
  • 2 c
    confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tsp
    each rum & vanilla extracts
  • 2-3 Tbsp
    half & half
  • ground nutmeg

How To Make nutmeg logs (tom & jerry cookies)

    In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Combine flour, nutmeg, and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well.

    Divide dough into 14 pieces. Shape each portion into a 12-in. x 1/2-in. thick rope. Cut ropes into 2-in. pieces. Place 2 in. apart on greased baking sheets.

    Bake at 350* for 9-12 minutes or until set and bottoms are lightly browned. Cool for 1 minute before removing to wire racks to cool completely.

    For frosting: In a small bowl, beat butter until fluffy. Add the confectioners' sugar and both extracts; beat until blended. Beat in enough cream to achieve desired spreading consistency.

    Frost cooled cookies. You can use the tines of a fork to make a "bark" pattern. Sprinkle lightly with nutmeg. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
