This is a family recipe that's been passed down. My mom always used to make a batch of these whenever we would go camping and my family and all the other campers would devour them within the first or second day. They're definitely my all-time favorite cookie. =]

I try to use really ripe bananas, so usually I freeze them until they're black. Easy to mash with some added sweetness!

Yummers! Banana bread, chocolate and oatmeal cookies all rolled into one fab dessert! The addition of the banana makes these oh-so-moist and then there's the chocolate....

Ingredients

1 c
shortening
1/2 c
white sugar
3/4 c
brown sugar, firmly packed

eggs
1 tsp
vanilla
3/4 c
mashed banana (about two medium)
1 tsp
salt
1 tsp
baking soda
1 1/2 tsp
cinnamon
2 c
flour
2 c
oatmeal (i use quick oatmeal)
6 oz
or 1/2 bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions Step-By-Step

Preheat oven to 350.

Cream shortening, sugars, eggs, vanilla, and banana.

Add dry ingredients and chocolate chips.

Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.

Bake 10-14 minutes. Makes 3-4 dozen, depending on size of spoonfuls.
