Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups sifted all purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup butter (or margarine)
- 3/4 cup karo syrup (light or dark)
- 1/2 cup sugar (granulated or brown)
How To Make icebox cookies

Step 1Sift together flour, salt, and soda.

Step 2Beat butter until soft and creamy. Add syrup and sugar. Add sifted dry ingredients and mix thoroughly with hands until stiff dough is formed.

Step 3Shape into 3 rolls. Wrap in waxed paper, chill in refrigerator 3 or 4 hours until firm enough to slice.

Step 4Slice 1/8 inch thick. Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake in a hot oven (400 F) for 10 minutes

Step 5Variation: COCONUT: add 1 cup after sugar. SPICE: add 1 teaspoon each cinnamon, cloces, allspice, nutmeg and sift with dry ingredients. FRUIT AND SPICE: combine spices and chopped fruit. RAISIN AND SPICE: combine spices and 1 cup raisins.
