Ingredients For icebox cookies

3 1/2 csifted all purpose flour

1/4 tspsalt

1/2 tspbaking soda

1 cbutter (or margarine)

3/4 ckaro syrup (light or dark)

1/2 csugar (granulated or brown)
How To Make icebox cookies

1Sift together flour, salt, and soda.

2Beat butter until soft and creamy. Add syrup and sugar. Add sifted dry ingredients and mix thoroughly with hands until stiff dough is formed.

3Shape into 3 rolls. Wrap in waxed paper, chill in refrigerator 3 or 4 hours until firm enough to slice.

4Slice 1/8 inch thick. Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake in a hot oven (400 F) for 10 minutes

5Variation: COCONUT: add 1 cup after sugar. SPICE: add 1 teaspoon each cinnamon, cloces, allspice, nutmeg and sift with dry ingredients. FRUIT AND SPICE: combine spices and chopped fruit. RAISIN AND SPICE: combine spices and 1 cup raisins.
