This is an old recipe for some GREAT cookies. Grandma often had a cookies jar full of these.

Ingredients For grandma's old fashioned soft pumpkin cookies

  • COOKIES:
  • 1 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/2 c
    butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    solid pack pumpkin (like libby's)
  • 1
    egg
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1/2 c
    optional: nuts, raisins, or chocolate chips
  • GLAZE:
  • 2 c
    powdered sugar
  • 3 Tbsp
    milk
  • 1 Tbsp
    melted butter
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla

How To Make grandma's old fashioned soft pumpkin cookies

    Cookies: In medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set aside. In large mixing bowl, cream butter, egg and vanilla; beat until light and creamy. Add dry ingredients; mix well. (OPTIONAL: Add 1/2 cup nuts, raisins, OR chocolate chips.) Drop by rounded tablespoon onto greased cookie sheets. Smooth tops of cookies. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool on wire racks. Drizzle with glaze. Makes 2-3 dozen cookies

    Glaze: In small bowl, combine 2 cups sifted powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons milk, 1 tablespoon melted butter or margarine, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Blend until smooth.
