I haven't made these in quite some time, but they are delicious. I used mini chocolate chips on these also and were so good. Any candy topping would work. Enjoy! The recipe came from my TOH Oct/Nov 2004 issue.

Ingredients For candy - topped bars

  • 1 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 c
    packed brown suga
  • 1/2 c
    cold butter
  • 1/2 c
    chopped pecans
  • 1
    (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1
    egg
  • 2 Tbsp
    milk
  • 1 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 c
    m & m's minis

How To Make candy - topped bars

    In a large bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in pecans. Press crumb mixture into a greased 9-in. square pan. Bake at 350° for 12-15 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.

    In a bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar. Add egg, milk, lemon juice and vanilla; mix well. Pour over warm crust.

    Bake for 25-30 minutes or until set. Immediately sprinkle with M&M's. Cool on a wire rack. Cut into bars. Refrigerate leftovers.
