This is an old family recipe that has been handed down. I have made some changes~I prefer the butter flavor crisco, and we love the cookie dough being rolled in Sugar in the Raw rather than plain white sugar. These cookies always disappear fast!!!

I take these on the Spring Break Ski trip with our friends and all the kids (young & old) just love them, they are usually gone before we head home!!!

Ingredients

3/4 c
crisco butter flavor shortening
1 c
white sugar
1/4 c
molasses or sorghum
1
egg
2 c
flour
2 Tbsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp
salt
1/2 tsp
cloves
1/2 tsp
ginger
1 tsp
cinnamon
sugar in the raw

Directions Step-By-Step

Cream together shortening and white sugar then add molasses and egg, mix well.

Sift the dry ingredients together, then add to creamed mixture.

Chill dough in refrigerator for an hour or so.

Preheat oven to 375*. Using tablespoon dip out some cookie dough and roll into ball and then roll in raw sugar. Place dough balls on greased cookie sheet and bake for about 10 minutes. Cookies will crack on top while baking.
