My mother made these delicious bars often when I was growing up. No apple butter on hand? Fruit spreads, preserves, jams, and jellies work just fine. We've even used cranberry sauce before! :) I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I have, and still do.

This is one really easy dessert. Your friends are guaranteed to eat these up. These make a great dessert but could be really nice with a cup of tea at breakfast. We used apple butter, but bet raspberry jam would be wonderful in these too.

Ingredients For apple butter bars

  • 1 1/2 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 2 1/2 c
    uncooked quick oats
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    butter/margarine, melted
  • 1 1/2 c
    apple butter (or other jam/jelly/preserves/etc)

How To Make apple butter bars

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

    In large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt Add the oats and the sugar. Stir in the melted butter and mix well. Press half of the mixture into a greased 13x9x2 inch pan. Top with apple butter.

    Sprinkle rest of the crumb mixture on top; press gently with a spoon. Bake at 350 degrees 55 minutes or till lightly brown. Cool and cut into bars.
