aunt ruth’s molasses chocolate chip cookies

My friend's aunt made these unusual cookies and I had to have the recipe. I have made it several times and had to give out the recipe. I think its the molasses that makes it a nice surprise when biting into these gems.

Ingredients For aunt ruth’s molasses chocolate chip cookies

  • 2 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    molasses
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    ginger
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 2/3 c
    shortening
  • 1/2 c
    buttermilk (i have used sour milk)
  • 1 1/2 c
    choc. chips
  • 1
    egg
  • 1/2 c
    walnuts, chopped (opt)

How To Make aunt ruth’s molasses chocolate chip cookies

    Add all ingredients in bowl and mix until all the ingredients come together. Drop by tablespoon onto greased pan and bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes depending on your oven. Makes 3 1/2 dozen
