Lisa's Notes:

We have made these yummy peanut butter balls every Christmas for 24 years. I always make them with my Mother in Law. Now my little girl loves making them with us.

Comments from the Test Kitchen: Kitchen Crew

The Kitchen Crew is plain nutty for these little guys! We had to hold my grandson - an Honorary Crew Member - back before he ate the whole first batch! Now that's the ultimate endorsement.

Directions

1
Mix peanut butter, margarine, vanilla in large bowl. Mix in graham crackers and powdered sugar with hands until stiff. Form into bite size balls.
2
Melt chocolate chips and paraffin in top pot of a double boiler. (with simmering water in lowest pot) Dip peanut butter balls into melted chocolate with toothpick and put on wax paper to dry.

These do sound terrific. Do you think butter would work? I really do not like to use margarine.

I have used butter and I really liked them. My Mother in law thinks margarine works better. But I like butter too. I just melt the butter and then let it cool. Make sure you add as I said in the directions. Sometimes it seems softer than other times. I add the crumbs a little at a time and mix well until it makes good balls.

I love making these, I've been using real butter and store bought generic sugar cookies in mine. They are super rich and buttery

Paraffin is wax. You can find it on the canning isle. I have heard of people that wouldn't put it because it is wax, but the chocolate doesn't firm up and look shiny if you don't use it. I have heard of some people using shortning but it just doesn't work as well for me. Let me know if you try them.

I was also going to comment that my kids like it best when I dip the whole ball in chocolate and not leave any peanut butter showing. I love to see the kitchen filled with peanut butter balls drying everywhere. Then I know it is Christmas!

Thank you Lisa. I can't wait to try these. I like Crisco better than Paraffin, so I think I will try some with that and see how they work out! Also have you ever used Chunky peaut butter? I love peanuts and was wondering if that would work instead of creamy. I might have to try that too!

Being originally from Ohio, we Buckeyes call these..."Buckeyes". I haven't made them in awhile but they are SO good!

Thanks!

I call them "Buckeyes" too. In fact, my recipe calls them buckeyes. I also use paraffin in alot of my candies & like it better than shortening.
