The Buckeye tree is the official tree for Ohio. These candy treats look similar to the buckeyes on the tree. These are very good. Full of peanut butter! Try to eat just one :)

Ingredients For chocolate/peanutbutter buckeyes

  • 1 1/2 c
    peanut butter, creamy
  • 1/2 c
    butter, softened
  • 1 tsp
    real vanilla extract
  • 4 c
    sifted confectioners' sugar
  • 6 oz
    semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 Tbsp
    vegetable shortening

How To Make chocolate/peanutbutter buckeyes

    Line a baking sheet with waxed paper; set aside

    In a medium bowl, mix peanut butter, vanilla and confectioners sugar with hands to form a smooth stiff dough. Shape into balls using 2 tsps of dough for each ball. Place on prepared pan and refrigerate.

    Melt shortening and chocolate together in a metal bowl over a pan of simmering water. Stir occasionally until smooth and remove from heat.

    Remove ball from refrigerator. Insert a wooden toothpick into ball and dip into melted chocolate. Return to wax paper, chocolate side down and remove toothpick. Repeat with remaining balls. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to set. Enjoy!!
