The Real Spanish Bar Cake

Does anyone remember The Spanish Bar Cake that A&P grocery stores use to have? This is about as close as I have found to the real thing!
The first bite brought back great memories YUM!!! I found this on another site a while back and just got around to making it. I frosted mine with a cream cheese frosting and it was perfect.

Ingredients

2 1/4 c
all purpose flour
3/4 c
brown sugar
3/4 c
white sugar
1 1/2 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
salt
4 Tbsp
cocoa, unsweetened
2 tsp
cinnamon
2 tsp
allspice
2 tsp
ground cloves
1 tsp
ginger
1/2 c
canola or vegetable oil
1/4 c
melted butter

applesauce
1 c
sour cream
2 medium
eggs
1 1/2-2 c
raisins, soaked in warm water about 5 minutes to plump
CREAM CHEESE FROSTING
8 oz
cream cheese softened
4 Tbsp
soft butter

vanilla extract
2 1/2 plus c
powdered sugar
1/3 c
milk (use only if you need to)
1 Tbsp
lemon juuice

Directions Step-By-Step

Heat oven to 350 degrees F
Prepare a 9x13 in.pan by spraying with non stick spray

In a large bowl, whisk all the dry ingredients together.

add oil,melted butter, applesauce, sour cream and eggs mix well and then add in the raisins, stir to combine

Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 30-35 minutes or until done when tested with a toothpick. Let cake cool completely before frosting.

frost with your favorite cream cheese frosting (or butter cream can be used)

For cream cheese frosting- Mix all ingredients beating well adding more milk or powdered sugar as needed to make it smooth and easy to spread
