I first got this recipe from my mom many years ago. I didn't have any blueberry syrup syrup so I used about 1/3 cup of blueberry preserves I had on hand form All fruit brand. I melted it in the microwave for 15 seconds and poured over the cake. This is so easy to make which is great because then you can concentrate on other things, like the grill...lol.
1heat oven to 350, or to pkg directions. lightly spray 2-9" cake pans with cooking spray. In lg bowl, beat all cake ingredients until mixed. Pour evenly into pans.
2bake as directed, ( my cakes took 22 mins. ) gently, using a wooden spoon or lg straw, poke holes in each cake, let cool. In small bowl, whisk together strawberry syrup and food coloring. Pour into holes in one cake.
3Pour blueberry syrup into the holes in the other cake layer. refrigerate 1 hr t set. Place 1 cake layer on a decorative plate and frost w/ some of the cool whip. Put other cake layer on top of 1st one, and frost w/ remaining cool whip. Cut strawberry bottoms and tops off and place in circles around cake, place blueberries in between strawnerries. refrigerate until ready to serve.
