Preheat oven to 350 degrees, lightly spray a 9x13 pan and set aside.
Place the cake mix, cherry pie filling,eggs,and almond extract in a large mixing bowl. Blend with an electric mixer on low speed for 1 minute. Stop the machine and scrape down the sides of the bowl with a sptatula. Increase the mixer speed to med and beat 2 minutes more. The batter should be thick and well blended.
Pour the batter into prepared pan and place in oven. Bake for 30-35 minutes until cake springs back when touched. Leave cake in pan and prepare the Glaze.
Place 1/3 cup of butter, 1 cup of sugar and cherry juice in a small sauce pan cook stirring constantly,until mixture comes to a full boil, Boil for 1 minute and time this to 1 minute. Remove the pan from heat and stir in chocolate chips. The glaze will be thin pour this over warm cake it will firm up when it gets cooler. You can decorate the top with the cherries.
