Perfect for dessert or brunch, this cake is a terrific mix of sweet and robust flavors... Love!

Directions

1
In a small bowl, beat butter and sugar until crumbly, about 2 minutes. Beat in egg. Beat in molasses. Combine the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and salt; add to butter mixture alternately with water, mixing well after each addition.
2
Transfer to a 9-in. square baking pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Cut into squares; garnish with whipped topping.

made this cake; I like the smaller size and most importantly, taste is great. (we grew up with putting butter on ours!)

Vanessa I am going to try this just as soon as my oven is done its cleaning cycle. As you, our family grew up with something like this.
Want to try yours as it looks just so easy to throw together. But I am
going to add raisins to mine. Looking forward to trying it. thanks for posting it.

Well I made this cake. Very light and moist. The flavor is not strong.I added raisins to mine which I think enhanced it. Over all a good recipe.
