nana's pound cake

This was my Nana's pound cake recipe. If we were lucky there would be some left to have toasted with butter.

Ingredients For nana's pound cake

  • 3 c
    sugar
  • 2 stick
    butter
  • 1/4 c
    vegetable shortening
  • 4
    eggs
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp
    almond extract
  • 3 c
    cake flour unsifted

How To Make nana's pound cake

  • 1
    Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar and cream together. Add eggs one at a time. Mix thoroughly after each egg. Add milk, flour and flavorings. Mix together.

    Set oven at 300 degrees, do not preheat oven. Bake 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes

    You can substitute margine for butter but tastes better with real butter.

    My daughter and Nana always use a bunt pan. A couple of loaf pans would work also.
