This is a delicious blend of chocolate, Kahlua and coffee. So you can have your cake and drink your coffee at the same time..lol.. This is not your usual chocolate cake-- I rate it right up there with that delicious "Black Magic" best Chocolate Cake Ever" ,yellow ribbon feature cake, by Lisa Glass. I love that recipe too!! So don't judge this one too harshly. LOL. This was my dad's favorite cake!

Ingredients For kahlua chocolate cake

  • CAKE BATTER:
  • 3 lg
    eggs, separated
  • 3/4 c
    granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c
    real butter, room temperature
  • 1 c
    light brown sugar,packed
  • 2 1/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 c
    unsweetened baking cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 3/4 c
    strong liquid coffee, cold
  • 3/4 c
    kahlua
  • FROSTING;
  • 6 Tbsp
    real butter, room temperature
  • 1 lb
    powdered sugar,sifted
  • 3 Tbsp
    unsweetened baking cocoa powder
  • 3 Tbsp
    kahlua
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp
    hot coffee

How To Make kahlua chocolate cake

    Grease and flour or line with parchment paper,(spray paper) two 9-inch cake pans. Preheat oven to 350^. --- Beat egg whites until frothy; then beat in granulated sugar until stiff peaks form. Set aside.

    Cake Batter: Cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg yolks one at a time. Sift flour, cocoa, and baking soda together.

    Add to creamed mixture alternately with coffee and kahlua; blend well. Fold egg whites into batter. Pour mixture into prepared pans. Bake 30-35 minutes,or until done; test with toothpick at 30 minutes.

    Cool 10 minutes, invert on wire rack; remove pans and peel off paper carefully. Cool before frosting. --- Frosting: In a large bowl cream butter and powdered sugar. Add cocoa,kahlua and coffee;as needed to make spreadable; beat until smooth. Frost sides then top..bead bottom edge of cake with frosting, if desired.
