I used a bundt pan for the cake pictured. I dusted it with confectioner's sugar and inverted it, just to be a little different.

Notes from the Test Kitchen:
This is a wonderfully moist and delicious chocolate cake.  Surprisingly, the beer really enhanced the flavor of the chocolate, and the sour cream helped to make it so moist.  If you are a chocolate lover then this is a must try.  (And it was easy too!)

1 c
guinness draft beer
3/4 c
sour cream
1 stick
unsalted butter (add 2 tbsp if you'd like)
1 Tbsp
pure vanilla extract
3/4 c
unsweetened cocoa
2 c
all purpose flour
3 c
confectioner's sugar
2 1/2 tsp
baking soda

Made this a few times and will continue to make it . This was not just okay to me, it was wonderful. It is so full of flavor and very easy to make. Be sure not to over bake and it will be perfect for you as well.

April if you are concerned about the taste of the beer I have a simple and tasty solution. Instead of the cup of beer you can use a cup of Cherry Coke or Cherry Dr Pepper. This will still give the cake a nice rich taste and a fluffy texture. I haven't used water when baking for probably 15 years, I really like the taste of the Dr Pepper and you'll love how moist and high your cake will be. If I'm making a white or light colored cake I use Cherry 7-Up. Please give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.

Absolutely love this cake! Deep rich chocolate taste, dense in texture and not too sweet. Not usually much of a cake lover, but can't get enough of this one! Put a chocolate glaze over the top and crushed red, white, and green candy canes sprinkled on top for a Christmas treat! Thank you for this recipe! I will make it again and again!

Making this for a birthday cake. Any suggestions on the frosting? I've found a Bailey's and Whiskey cream cheese recipe but don't want to cover the flavor of the Guinness...Thoughts?
