Ingredients For date cake

  • 1 c
    chopped dates* (see note below)
  • 1 c
    wesson oil (grandma said it had to be that brand)
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 3
    eggs, beaten
  • 1 c
    pecans, chopped
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 2 c
    all purpose flour, sifted well
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 2 tsp
    allspice
  • 2 tsp
    ground cloves
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon

How To Make date cake

  • 1
    Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Pour into a greased and floured tube pan. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 350 degrees for 55 minutes.

    NOTE: *Cooked prunes or raisins can be used instead of the dates--or--a combination of these 3....as long as it is 1 cup total.
