1Put first 5 ingredients in electric mix master bowl, follow directions on box to mix. Fold in nuts & chopped cherries to batter.
2Using a buttered & floured tube pan, pour batter into it and bake for 55 minutes or test with a toothpick until it comes out clean. Cool for 15 minutes before adding sauce.
3While cake baking make sauce: melt butter on medium in pot; add sugar & whiskey cooking until it bubbles. Let sit to cool.
4Once cake has cooled, make holes with a fork or bamboo scorer over the top of the cake. Pour cooled sauce into holes. Let sit at least 1 hour to absorb the sauce before cutting.
5Note: you can use a 13 x 9 inch baking pan & follow the baking directions on the cake mix box.
