Braided Cinnamon Sugar Bread

I wanted to make a bread that would be both delicious and visually appealing to look at. This is bread is not actually braided. The way you roll it out and slice it creates the appearance of it being braided. This taste like a giant cinnamon sugar covered doughnut. Its very flaky and light in texture. You could add a powdered sugar glaze, raisins or leave as is. I love the way it looks when its done, and it couldn't be easier to accomplish the look. Enjoy!

Ingredients

BREAD

2 c
all purpose flour
1/2 tsp
salt
1/2 c
warm milk - not hot, but warm
2 1/2 tsp
active dry yeast
1/8 c
melted butter
1
egg yolk
1 Tbsp
sugar

FILLING:

1/4 c
butter, softened
5 Tbsp
sugar
3 tsp
cinnamon

Directions Step-By-Step

1
Mix the yeast and sugar with the warm milk and let it sit for 5 min, until the yeast bubbles up.
2
Add the egg yolk, the melted butter, the flour and the salt, then add to bread machine and run the dough cycle. Allow cycle to complete.
3
Preheat oven to about 400 F. Flour your surface and roll the dough out to a thickness of 1 cm.
4
Spread the melted butter across all of the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar mixture.
5
Roll up the dough, and using a knife, cut the log in half length-wise.
6
Twist the two halves together, keeping the open layers exposed. Then transfer to a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
7
Top the remaining butter and sprinkle some sugar and cinnamon mixture. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the top is golden brown.
8
Reduce the oven temperature to 350 F after 10 minutes to stop it burning. Top with whatever you like and Enjoy!
