I came across this recipe in 1992 from Classic Baking with Hershey's. Just love this one. A chocolate dream.

Ingredients

2 c
sugar
1 3/4 c
all-purpose flour
3/4 c
hershey's cocoa
2 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
baking powder
1 tsp
salt
2
eggs
1 c
strong black coffee or 2 tsps powdered instant coffee plus 1 cup boiling water
1 c
buttermilk or sour milk*
1/2 c
vegetable oil
1 tsp
pure vanilla extract

Step-By-Step

1Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour (2) 9 inch round baking pans or (1) 13x9x2 baking pan.
2In large mixer bowl, stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add eggs, coffee, buttermilk, oil and vanilla; beat on medium speed of electric mixer 2 minutes (batter will be thin). Pour patter into prepared pan(s).
3Bake 30 to 35 minutes for round pans, 35 to 40 minutes for rectangular pan or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely. Frost as desired.
4*To sour milk: Use 1 Tablespoon white vinegar plus milk to equal 1 cup.
For buttermilk I use powdered buttermilk that I push through a small screened strainer adding it to the dry ingredients, following the directions to make 1 cup buttermilk.
