Ingredients

semisweet chocolate chips
2/3 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c
chopped walnuts or pecans
1 Tbsp
cinnamon, ground
1 1/2 c
all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp
baking powder
3/4 tsp
baking soda
1/4 tsp
salt
3/4 c
sugar
1/2 c
unsalted butter, room temperature
1
egg
1 1/3 c
bananas, mashed very ripe, 3 large
3 Tbsp
buttermilk

Step-By-Step

1PREHEAT OVEN TO 350F. GREASE 8X8X2 INCH BAKING PAN.
2STIR IN CHOCOLATE CHIPS, BROWN SUGAR, WALNUTS OR PECANS AND CINNAMON IN A SMALL BOWL UNTIL WELL BLENDED; SET ASIDE.
3SIFT ALL FLOUR, BAKING SODA, SALT & BAKING POWDER AND SET ASIDE.
4USING AN ELECTRIC MIXER, BEAT SUGAR, BUTTER AND EGG IN MIXING BOWL UNTIL FLUFFY. BEAT IN MASHED BANANAS AND BUTTERMILK. ADD DRY INGREDIENTS AND BLEND WELL.
5SPREAD HALF THE BATTER IN PREPARED BAKING PAN. SPRINKLE WITH HALF OF STREUSEL MIX. REPEAT WITH REMAINING BATTER.
6BAKE COFFEE CAKE UNTIL TESTER INSERTED COMES OUT CLEAN, ABOUT 45 MINUTES.
