Ingredients For assorted frostings

  • 2 stick
    butter, room temperature
  • 1 - 8 oz pkg
    cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/2 c
    vegetable shortening
  • 1 Tbsp
    pure vanilla extract
  • 2 lb
    confectioners' sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    water

How To Make assorted frostings

    In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, combine first 3 ingredients. Beat on medium speed until smooth. Reduce speed; add evanilla & gradually add sugar while mixing. Add water; beat until smooth. Divide frosting into 1 C servings for color & flavor variations, or store for later use. Line a 1 C measuring cup with plastic wrap, leaving a few inches of wrap around the edges. Fill cup with frosting & wrap securely, making sure it’s airtight. Repeat with remaining frosting. Store in large freezer bag, until ready to use. Refrigerate up to 2 weeks, or freeze up to 1 month. Bring to room temperature before using. 1 cup of frosting will cover 3 - 6 cupcakes, depending on decorating style.

    VARIATIONS: Red Raspberry: Combine 1 C Frosting & 2 tbsp seedless raspberry jam in a bowl. Add 2 - 4 drops red food coloring gel & mix well. Blue Almond: Combine 1 C Frosting & 1/2 tsp almond extract in a bowl. Add 2 - 4 drops blue food coloring gel & mix well. Yellow Lemon: Combine 1 C Frosting & 1/2 tsp lemon extract in a bowl. Add 2 - 4 drops yellow food coloring gel & mix well. Purple Grape: Combine 1 C Frosting & 2 tbsp grape jam in a bowl. Add 2 - 4 drops red food coloring gel & mix well. Green Mint: Combine 1 C Frosting & 1/2 tsp mint extract in a bowl. Add 2 - 4 drops green food coloring gel & mix well. Orange: Combine 1 C Frosting & 1/2 tsp orange extract in a bowl. Add 2 - 4 drops orange food coloring gel & mix well.

    TIP FOR COLORS: Use 1 drop for a lighter shade of color, or 2 - 4 drops per cup of frosting for deeper, brighter shades.
