Ingredients

CREAM CHEESE FILLING

1 (8 oz) pkg
cream cheese, room temperature
1/4 c
butter, softened
1/2 c
sugar
1 large
egg
2 Tbsp
all purpose flour
1 tsp
vanilla extract

APPLE CAKE BATTER

1 c
finely chopped toasted pecans
1 3/8 c
all purpose flour
1 c
sugar
1 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
2 tsp
ground cinnamon
1 Tbsp
salt
1 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp
allspice
3 large
eggs, lightly beaten
3/4 c
canola oil
3/4 c
unsweetened apple sauce
1 tsp
vanilla extract
3 c
granny smith apples, peeled,cored and chopped

PRALINE FROSTING

1/2 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
1/4 c
butter
3 Tbsp
milk
1 tsp
vanilla extract
1 c
confectioners' sugar (powdered sugar)

Directions Step-By-Step

1. PREPARE FILLING: Beat first 3 ingredients at medium speed with electric mixer until blended and smooth. Add egg, flour, and vanilla extract; beat until just blended. Set aside.

PREPARE CAKE BATTER: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 1.Toast pecans in shallow pan 8 to 10 minutes or until fragrant. Stirring half way through.
2. Stir together 3-cups flour and next 7 ingredients in large bowl, stir in eggs and next 3 ingredients. Stir until dry ingredients are moistened. Stir in apples and pecans.
3. Spoon two-thirds of apple mixture into a greased and floured 14 cup angel or bunt cake pan. Spoon cream cheese filling over apple mixture. Leaving a 1-inch border around edges of pan.Swirl filling through apple mixture with a paring knife. Spoon remaining apple mixture over cream cheese filling spreading to edges.
4.Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hr to 1 hr. 15 minutes.or until a long wooden pick inserted near center comes out clean.Cool cake in pan on wire rack for 15 minutes;remove from pan to wire rack and cool completely (about 2 hours). After cake is cooled move to serving platter.

PREPARE FROSTING:1. Bring 1/2 cup light brown sugar and 3 Tbsp. milk to a boil in 2-qt. saucepan over medium heat. Whisking constantly; boil 1 minute; whisking constantly.
2.Remove from heat; stir in vanilla extract.Gradually whisk in confectioners' sugar until smooth; stir gently 3-5 minutes or until mixture begins to cool and thickens slightly.
3. Pour or drizzle over cooled cake. Add more chopped toasted pecans for garnish if desired.Refrigerate for 2 hours. Then serve.
