Cream butter and suger add eggs one at a time mixing completely add flour alternating with buttermilk until well blended beat in vanilla pour into prepared pans bake at 350 degrees untill done this is cake making 101 !!!

Make sure you don't mix ivong too long it gets grainy start spreading it while it seems loose. I'll do that next time mine came out good before I missed it too long. Very rich too

make sure you don't mix icing it too long it will come out grainy. Temp was 225. Very rich too

Does the icing go in between the cake layers and also used as the frosting?

Made this cake last night and just had a slice this afternoon - AMAZING! Personally, I would double the caramel frosting recipe as the original did not yield enough for a 3 layer cake. Save yourself the trouble by doubling it instead of having to make two batches like I did.
