Your house smells so yummy when you make this.... I use a combination of dried fruit blend from Aldi's. (It is the cheapest place I have found to buy it along with bags of raw almonds and the oats...It has blueberries, cherries, strawberries, & cranberries. This recipe can be a little pricey but it is so worth it :) Have you checked the price of handmade granola out there??? I have seen it for about a cup's worth $6 or 7... Make your own :) . But use whatever you like, Trader Joe's has blends of all kinds of dried fruit which are good too. You can use apricots, dried apples, raisins other kinds of nuts anything works, my philsospy is use what you have :)... Please be careful when you cook this. It can burn very easily. Keep stirring every 5-10 minutes, but in the last bit of baking stir every 5 minutes. You want the granola to be golden brown not burnt, which trust me I have burnt it before and had to throw the entire batch away. Which is no fun.....If your oven runs hot cook at 300 not 325... This is good on yogurt, ice cream or just plain.

    old fashioned oatmeal
  • 1 c
    shredded coconut
  • 1 c
    almonds, chopped
  • 1/2 c
    pecans, halved
  • 1/3 c
    oil
  • 1/3 c
    maple syrup
  • 1/3 c
    honey
  • 1/4 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/2 c
    dried fruit of your choice
  • sprinkling of cinnamon

How To Make homemade granola

  • 1
Spray your baking pan ( I use 1/2 sheet pan but you can use a cookie sheet too) with nonstick spray.
  • 2
In large bowl combine oatmeal, coconut, almonds & pecans.
  • 3
In another bowl, whisk together oil, brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon and honey mixing well.
  • 4
Pour over oatmeal mixture, mixing well to make sure entire mixture is covered well with wet ingredients.
  • 5
Pour onto baking sheet spreading out onto a thin layer.
  • 6
Put into 325 degree oven (see notes if your oven runs "hot". Bake 25 minutes,STIRRING EVERY 5-10 MINUTES).
  • 7
Take out of oven and add dried fruit, stirring mixture well. Bake for an additional 5-7 minutes or until light golden brown. (Be careful on this step it will continue to cook when you let it cool on the baking pan but you do want it to be a light to medium golden brown.

Let cool. It will stick a little to the pan so if you want to avoid this you can dump this onto parchment paper on the counter while warm, or a silpat liner (silicone liner). I leave mine in the pan until cool (it stays in clumps better) but you do have to scrub the pan (I let it soak with hot water) then wash it, it usually comes right off.
