ruby red grapefruits
1Cut each grapefruit in half (always perpendicular to the segments), then section with a sharp knife, removing any visible seeds.
2Sprinkle the halves with the sherry and brown sugar. Arrange on a baking sheet and place under a preheated broiler. Cook briefly, only until well heated and the sugar caramelizes. Serve immediately.

Shirlie, This sounds good... it is a little differnt than my old recipe.... I just do the brown sugar and put a cherry in the center. I was the new cook at the Cathedral Rectory and this was one of the first things I made...way back in 1974.

I think I remember my great-grandmother making this for me when I was young cuz I was wasn't a fan of grapefruit unless it was loaded w sugar!! Could another liquor be used like amaretto? I also think maple syrup would be interesting or a syrup made w grapefruit juice or maybe oj! They still have to be super sweet and I'll be 46 any day now!! My tastes have changed over the yrs but my sweet tooth remains. Not as bad, but still there. Just smaller portions!! Can't wait to try this again!! Thx 4 sharin'!
