sweet roll dough

This is a great basic sweet roll dough that works well for any sweet yeast bread; i.e.: cinnamon rolls, orange zest rolls, monkey breads, sweet bread, Cheese filled rolls, etc. My family is especially fond of Cinnamon Rolls and Orange Zest Rolls. I've used this for years, so I am afraid I don't remember where I got the recipe from...but I know it's a good'un!

-
1/2 cwarm water (105-115f)
-
1/2 clukewarm milk
-
1/2 csugar
-
1/3 cbutter, or butter flavored shortening
-
1 tspsalt
-
1egg
-
3 1/2-4 call-purpose flour
How To Make sweet roll dough
-
1Dissolve yeast in warm water in large bowl. Stir in milk, sugar, shortening, salt, egg and 2 cups of the flour. Beat until smooth.
-
2Mix in enough of the additional flour to make a soft dough, easy to handle (I use my hands). Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface, and knead until it is smooth and elastic about 6 minutes. Place upside down in a greased bowl, then, turn the dough right side up again, and cover the bowl with a clean towel, paper towels or clear wrap-don't wrap tightly! Let rise in a warm place, free of drafts, until double in size. About 90 minutes.
-
3Remove dough when it's ready (Dough is ready if an indentation remains when touched). Punch it down with a closed fist to the bottom of the bowl. Roll out for Cinnamon Rolls, Orange Zest Rolls, divide in portions and shape for whatever rolls you're making!
