grated peel and juice of 1 lemon
1/4 cup poppy seeds or chopped walnuts
Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan. Whisk together flour, salt and baking powder
In large bowl, cream butter, sugar and eggs together til light and fluffy. add milk, alternately with flour mixture in 2 parts; mix well. Stir in grated lemon peel and poppy seeds.
Pour batter into prepared loaf pan. Bake for 60 minutes or til toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let bread cool in pan for 5 minutes.
Mix together lemon juice and powdered sugar to make glaze. Remove bread from pan. Pour glaze over warm bread, poking holes in bread first till make it absorb more of the glaze. Makes 10 servings.
