makes 4 small loaves or 3 larger loaves
3/4 cup butter or margarine
Cut up dates in a bowl, cover with 1 1/2 cups hot water (from the tap) and baking soda. Set aside.
In another bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and mix well. Add salt, nuts and vanilla and mix well. Add dates and liquid. Then add flour and mix well.
Bake in greased and floured loaf pans in 350 degree oven. Bake for 40 to 55 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
Cool 20 to 25 minutes.
