The original recipe came from our neighbor. The recipe was used to bake banana bread at the Callaway Gardens Store in Georgia.

I have added an extra ingredient to the recipe to enhance the flavor.

Ingredients

2 c
sugar
1 c
vegetable shortening
4
eggs, beaten
4 c
plain flour (i use white lily)
1 tsp
salt
2 tsp
baking soda
1/2 c
chopped pecans or walnuts

bananas, large, ripe
optional: chopped dates (8), golden raisins, or canned pineapple
1 tsp
pure vanilla extract

Directions Step-By-Step

Cream sugar and shortening with a hand mixer in a large mixing bowl. Add eggs. Sift dry ingredients and add to the first mixture. Add mashed bananas and nuts. Bake in 4 small loaf pans or 2 large loaf pans at 275 degrees for 30 minutes, then increase heat to 300 degrees and bake 45 minutes.
