We love this for breakfast with cream cheese spread.

pinch tips: How to Clean Stainless Steel Sinks

1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 cups buttermilk or 2 cups milk plus 2 tablespoons vinegar or lemon juice
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2/3 cups sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon

Directions Step-By-Step

Cream together butter, 2 cups of sugar, and eggs. Add milk, flour, and baking soda. Put 1/2 of batter (or a little less) into greased loaf pans (1/4 in each pan).
Mix in separate bowl the 2/3 c sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle 3/4 of cinnamon mixture on top of the 1/2 batter in each pan.
Add remaining batter to pans; sprinkle with last of cinnamon topping. Swirl with a knife. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 min. or until toothpick tester come clean.
Cool in pan for 20 minutes before removing from pan.
I have also made this bread in muffin tins which made it a little easier to freeze and take out as needed.

what ever you use remember you must save enough batter to add equal amount over the sugar mix.

I made this last week and it was great. Since it will be another cool August night in a few hours, I am getting ready to make it again. Thanks so much for the recipe!

I thought this was a horrible recipe. It took 15 minutes longer to bake than the longest suggested time, it fell to pieces when I tried to cut it. Tasted o.k., but not nearly as good as the traditional Amish Friendship Bread that you ferment for 10 days.

Made it tonite and it is moist and delicious! It did take longer to bake but was worth the wait. Loaves held together great and popped right out of the pans after 20 minutes.

This recipe is awesome...especially served warm. It makes two regular loaf pans. Also, you could use 4 mini-loaf pans so you have some to share!
